Stewardship Committee
All our gifts, all our possessions, all our resources come from God and we are charged with the responsibility of using them wisely.
The mission of the Stewardship Committee is to encourage and challenge the church membership to grow in their management of resources and sharing of personal time, talents, and treasure to achieve God’s purposes.
The committee will place emphasis on the annual appeal for funds to support the financial needs of the church and its outreach efforts, and will work to increase planned giving and assist in capital campaigns.
A Stewardship Moment
"We should so live and labor in our times that what came to us as seed may go to the next generation as blossom, and that what came to us as blossom may go to them as fruit." - Henry Ward Beecher
For many people, sterwardship means fund-raising, and for church-goers it becomes synonymous with the annual appeal for operating funds. Financial sterwardship is seen as related to current income only. Our Christian faith asks us to take a more holistic view of stewardship, to be good manager of all our resources that have been granted to us through the grace of God. Thus we are required to be diligent planners for ourselves and our families, to conserve resources wisely, to participate in community affairs, to share generously with those less endowed, to make healthy decisions in our lifestyles, and to help educate others in good management of their lives.
We come naked into the world, and all our resources are God-given. Giving not only of our assets but of ourselves is a spiritural act that expresses compassion with our fellow human beings and a belief in the future. The return on that investment provides an incomparable sense of meaning, contribution, and purpose to our lives.
You might think, as many people do, that stewardship is something one thinks about in the fall, when church members are asked to think about all the gifts that God has given them and pledge a generous portion in support of the ministry of the church. But needs of the church and its mission are year-round. We must recognize that stewardship is a full-time commitment to conscious management of all our resources to maximize the return to ourselves, our families, our communities, and the wider world. Good stewardship involves constant awareness of the need to be efficient in the use of our time, talent and treasure and a generous hsaring of these God-given gifts.
Give to God off the top, not as a tip left at the table after the meal.
